Start With Why

Start With Why

It’s been over a decade since I left my career as a lawyer and began building a creative life from the inside out. At the time, I didn’t know exactly where I was heading. I was lost, but I had a stubborn inner compass. I knew I wanted to find a more meaningful life.

That path led me to back to my childhood dream of drawing, storytelling, and eventually, teaching. Along the way, there were so many layers to uncover. I discovered that what I was really learning wasn’t just how to make art, but how to listen to myself. To allow myself to change. To become who I really was. My creative exploration dovetailed with a mindfulness practice, and I finally found what I had been looking for: the way out is in.

Now, everything I create—books, illustrations, classes—is rooted in this simple but powerful idea: mindfulness allows us to live more meaningful lives. And creativity is one of the best ways to practice mindfulness.

What I Do

1. I create illustrated books and art
Illustrated books are my original passion and the focus of my creative work. My books are for both children and grownups—simple, poetic experiences that speak to the wonder and wisdom found in everyday life. They’re designed with intention and meant to be shared, reflected on, and returned to. You can find them at Mimochai.

2. I teach drawing and mindfulness through art
I create on-demand classes that share practical, useful art skills. What I do differently is I teach through a unique mindfulness lens that helps students overcome common blocks. You can find them in Mimochai Studio and on Skillshare.

3. I share tools and reflections for mindful living
I offer resources, writings, prompts, and inspiration to share my experiences and support others on their creative journeys. You can subscribe to my newsletter here, and find a library of resources exclusively in Mimochai Studio.

What I Believe

  • Creativity is a natural part of us, a gift we all receive.

  • Mindfulness is the foundation for a well-lived life and a better world.

  • Nurturing our creativity and mindfulness is essential to everyone's wellbeing.

  • Anyone can do it, and it's never too late to start.
